Con Dao, Vietnam – November 13, 2020, Con Dao National Park has been officially recognized as a member of the Indian Ocean-Southeast Asia (IOSEA)*, becoming the 11th member of the marine turtle conservation international network. The recognition honors great efforts to promote biodiversity conservation from Vietnam’s authority, while confirming strong commitment to protect the country’s rare species, particularly demonstrated in the turtle conservation in Con Dao region.

Nguyen Khac Pho, director of Con Dao National Park, said conservation efforts require the participation of both scientists and businesses in order to develop ecological tourism in a sustainable manner. Many firms have joined with Con Dao National Park to work together and protect the marine turtle species in an effective manner.

In collaboration with Con Dao National Park, Six Senses Con Dao’s own incubation center “Let’s Get Cracking” has since been home to many new turtle hatchings, with 2020 seeing a high successful hatching rate, 43 nests delivered to the resort for custodianship and over 2,095 turtles successfully hatching and released to the ocean. For the past 3 years, there have been 173 nests with 7,860 critically endangered newly hatched green sea turtles. With an average hatching rate of 80%, it represents the careful and consistent effort that Six Senses Con Dao has in the conservation of these precious species.

Six Senses Con Dao’s demonstrated commitment to sustainability has also been recognized as one of the world’s top eco lodges by many leading publications. Directly in front of the resort is a prime habitat and feeding grounds, the only place where protection is enforced for the small marine population that resides around Con Dao Islands.

For the past 3 years, Six Senses Con Dao, in collaberation with the Con Dao National Park  has been the proud care-taker of  132 nests, releasing  6,793 critically endangered newly hatched green sea turtles into the ocean.

With an above average hatching rate of 75%, it represents the strong commitment that Six Senses Con Dao has in the conservation of these precious species.

Thanks to mother nature’s sweet favor, Con Dao island is the perfect choice for a mama sea turtle to nest.

Comprising of 16 mostly uninhabited islands and islets, more than 80 percent of the land area is national park, offering a sublime and magnificent landscape that is well-preserved and protected.

The process is entirely as nature intended; the mama sea turtle instinctively searches for a peaceful, secluded beach to nest, almost untouched by human hands. After creating the perfect nest, by digging a small hollow with her hind legs, the eggs are deposited and she will return to the sea, leaving them to develop on their own.

Having realized the potential harm from the outside environment that the turtles face, Six Sense Con Dao restored its beach to optimize egg laying for the green turtles and help decrease the mortality rate of turtle hatchlings.

Since the temperature of the sand in which the eggs are nesting plays a key role in deciding the gender of a turtle egg, influencing the hatchling performance the resort’s incubation is believed to provide the best nesting condition allowing temperatures to be controlled and adjusted, using completely natural techniques with a skilled team of care-takers trained in conservation. Hence, a higher survival ratio and above average hatching rate.

CON DAO, Vietnam – April 20, 2020 – Six Senses Con Dao welcomes Eric Hallin as the new General Manager and Hannah Loughlin as the new Director of Sales and Marketing. 

As the newly appointed General Manager of Six Senses Con Dao, Eric Hallin brings with him over 40 years of international experience in luxurious hospitality management to the tropical paradise. 

Growing up in Africa and Europe, he attended the Universities of Malawi and Stockholm before joining the travel industry. Fluent in several languages, his career has spanned several countries, including France, Greece, Maldives, Spain and Thailand. His management expertise has contributed to the success of many properties, including the Six Senses Hideaway in Koh Samui, voted “Best Hotel in the World” by Condé Nast Traveller readers in 2008. 

Taking his steps into the pristine island of Con Dao, Eric brings a fresh breeze to the resort and its hosts and shares his working philosophy that a general manager is only as good as his ability to instruct, motivate and empower his team. Eric also attaches importance to community issues and local business development. To do this he has held many leading positions in PATA, chambers of commerce and Skål.   

British born; based in South East Asia since 2016 Hannah Loughlin, has cultivated her knowledge, leadership and management skills in sales and marketing since 2002 in Grosvenor House, London before going on to join brands such as Design hotels, and spearheading the field team of prestigious iconic Hotels such as Sofitel London St James, InterContinental and Anantara, Angkor. 

Prior to her new role at Six Senses Con Dao, Hannah was leading the sales, operations and finance team in Cambodia as General Manager for Trails of Indochina, a luxury inbound agency across Indochina. With her goal-oriented and strategic mindset, and a great deal of passion for luxury travel, Hannah makes a perfect fit for Six Senses Con Dao.

The health and safety of our guests and hosts are of paramount importance to Six Senses Con Dao. We understand and share the community’s concerns regarding the current health issues affecting the world. 

The Vietnamese Government is very active in handling the situation and thankfully there have been no serious cases of Covid-19 in our transit point of Ho Chi Minh City, and the 16 confirmed cases in the nation have all been confirmed as cured as at the end of February.

We are the Con Dao islands and Six Senses Con Dao are safe and un-touched by the issue, and at present no guest or host has experienced any flu-like symptoms.  The island is still as safe and attractive as ever, and we are continuing to greet local and foreign visitors daily.

Our team have taken extensive steps to ensure all safety and health precautions are in place to ensure our guests feel safe while enjoying their stay at Six Senses Con Dao.  We have put in place a thorough procedure to ensure the safety and cleanliness from front office to back of house and throughout the resort in line with our commitment to the deepest possible care for our guests.

Common spaces such as the bar and restaurant are regularly cleaned with disinfectant wipes. Rooms and their amenities are being ‘deep cleaned’ in a process that includes the removal of bed sheets, pillow and blanket covers upon request as well as after check-out. Water bottles are disinfected and refilled directly from our own water -distilling facility, ensuring the highest safety and hygiene standards. Our restaurant’s always-fresh ingredients are sourced from the resort’s own organic garden and from local markets.
